Be My Valentine

4:43 PM

Everyone has an opinion about Valentine's Day. Some hate it, some wait for it the whole year, some get annoyingly overexcited, some have a lot of other things to do, especially since nobody gives the day off. I'm not one for receiving stuffed animals, pink sparkly roses and cheesy quotes. I don't love the thing, I don't despise it either..the 14th doesn't really trigger anything meaningful in my brain and/or heart. Moreover, feeding with romanticism seems a bit cruel to me..feeding with love and affection is just something else. However, there are people that really enjoy every minute of the holiday because it's a reason to remind how much we care for one another, since it's quite easy to forget.

Everyone has an opinion, everyone is an observer. We have tons of ideas of how others should live their life, yet no clues about our own. These things apply mostly when there are a lot of people involved, therefore more points of view and illusions of rightfulness. I don't think that there should be only one day that celebrates love because it is obvious that love doesn't manifest at the same time for all of us, although we can follow the same logic regarding Mother's Day or Innovation Day. The point is, holidays are made for celebrating and feeling grateful for certain aspects of our lives( behind the commercial bullshit that floats around each one of these). But we don't have to feel constrained to celebrate it all at the same time, because feelings don't coordinate on such a big scale. So my advice would be to create your own holidays, little rituals that make everything feel more intimate and actually relate with your mood and personality. We don't have to comply with whatever is dictated by the society, if we want to keep our identity and our morals in the right place.

So have a really amazing Valentine's Day, if it's the case. If you're not feeling it, happy Whatever You Want to Celebrate Day. If you can't think of a certain entity, be thankful you can spend another day on this planet, breathe this air, see the sunlight and embrace the chance of a new beginning that life gives with every morning you open your eyes.
